Had our major wildlife encounter whilst walking on Cape Naturaliste - came across the deadly Tiger Snake actually half way through eating a similarly deadly Dugite snake.
We kept a healthy distance, but it wouldn't move away for ages, even though we threw a few stones to try and get past - certainly weren't going to risk jumping over them! We knew we had something special with the photos when the Rangers back at the lighthouse got very excited - if only we had a super duper camera rather than a clapped out Lumix point'n shoot, we would be looking at National Geographic and Wildlife Photo of the Year!
If I was on Instagram or Facebook it would be racking up the likes - however just you and a select few friends will ever see the photos - so enjoy or shudder depending on your point of view.
MORE BENIGN WILDLIFE
These are our favourite Aussie birds - Splendid Wrens - often seen around cafe gardens.
and this stingray was swimming along the shore at Hamelin Bay - well known for them and some were 3 times this size just a few yards further out to sea.
Pelicans and pied cormorants in Augusta on Blackwood River where it enters the ocean - later blog shows the river further upstream where it regularly floods.
Some local kangeroos just around the corner from Niki's house - we went out several evenings at dusk and watched them feeding on the grass verges after they appeared out of the bush opposite the houses.
And finally - just to compete with bats at Beck Head - Ring Tailed Possums in the roof at Niki's house. Similar problem in that they are protected species, but they make a lot more mess than bats and can only be removed by waiting until night falls and they come out (as seen here in the eaves) - then blocking up the hole. Niki tried it a few months ago (try getting a builder to come out at 9 pm and climb a large extension ladder in the dark and then fix some wire guards to the eaves - not easy!) but they just seem to have moved round the corner to the balcony roof. To be continued .......
